breakingdawnbookcover 199x300 Breaking Dawn Paperback Breaking Dawn could now be yours to own in Paperback ;) It has recently been published and released for sale on Amazon.com or Kalahari.net so if you collect the Paperback version of the series then this is for you :D

Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions on Breaking Dawn from Stephenie Meyer’s website :)

What does the cover mean?

Breaking Dawn’s cover is a metaphor for Bella’s progression throughout the entire saga. She began as the weakest (at least physically, when compared to vampires and werewolves) player on the board: the pawn. She ended as the strongest: the queen. In the end, it’s Bella that brings about the win for the Cullens.

What does the title mean?

The title Breaking Dawn is a reference to the beginning of Bella’s vampire life.

What does the Book I prologue refer to?

These are Bella’s thoughts about Renesmee, during the time when her life was in serious danger from the pregnancy.

I’ve heard you say that you think Breaking Dawn should be two movies. Why? Also, that it might be impossible to film. What does that mean?

If Breaking Dawn were ever made into a movie, it’s hard to imagine it fitting into ninety minutes. The book is just so long! I can’t imagine how to distill it—if I could, the book would be shorter. But maybe a screenwriter can see a way to do it and still cover the crucial plot points.

When I said that Breaking Dawn might be impossible to film, it’s because of Renesmee. You can do almost anything with CGI these days—realistic dragons and dinosaurs and endless amounts of nonexistent creatures that blend right in with the real elements. Some of them look so real you forget they’re not. However, the one thing that I’ve never seen is a CGI human being who truly looks real. An actress can’t play Renesmee, at least not when she’s a few days old; she’s the size of a baby, but her expressions are totally controlled and aware. She would have to be a construct, and CGI isn’t quite there yet. Of course, they develop amazing new technologies everyday, and we’ve got a little time left.

LA Eclipse Premiere

After 11 Hours to London, 5 hours stop over and another 10 hours to LA, we finally landed at LAX and was picked up by our driver in a Escalade.  Immediately I felt like a star.  We had plenty to keep us busy till Thursday – the day of the Eclipse Premiere.  I could not sleep the night before and was bursting on Thursday.  We headed off to the spa and had our hair done, after which we got ready for the Eclipse World Premiere.  Unfortunately, we arrived late and after collecting our tickets and handing in our cameras and cell phones, we went straight into The Nokia Theatre.  We all received popcorn(which came in an Eclipse cup) & cooldrink.  We watched the end of the red carpet on screens in the cinema.

At about 20h30, the lights dimmed and in walked Robert Pattinson.  The audience went wild.  He was followed by Kristen Stewart & Taylor Lautner, each time the audience screamed.  And then, Eclipse was shown.  It was the most amazing experience to know I was watching this movie in the same theatre as the stars –all of them seated just in front of me.  The audience showed their appreciation of either the stars or the scenes with a quick clapping of hands or scream (when Taylor was shirtless of course), but they quickly quietened down each time, which allowed us all to enjoy the movie.  After the screening, we filed out and collected our cameras and cell phones, which took quite a while.  We then proceeded across the lot to the roof top garage, where a huge tent was erected and the after party was.  It wasn’t very crowded when we arrived and we sort of just wandered around.  In each corner of the tent, they had raised lounges, which were cordoned off.  This was where the stars were, but you could see them and take photos.  They had food and drinks available for everyone and great music playing.

As I was walking around, I saw Gil Birmingham just sitting on the side having a drink. Of course I approached him and asked if I could get his autograph and a photo with him.  He agreed and then I told him I was from South Africa and he told me he would love to visit one day… Lets hope so!  Next I walked past one of the lounges and saw Taylor Lautner in the on the other side.  While walking round, I spotted Nikki Reed and Elizabeth Reaser and quickly snapped pics of them.  As I approached the other side, I realised that Taylor’s body guards were getting ready for him to leave and I quickly snapped some pics of him.  While waiting for him to leave and possibly get a better shot, who should also be leaving – Stephenie Meyer :) Then Taylor’s body guard made a path for him and guess who they shoved him right past – yours truly!! Naturally I just put my hand out and softly brushed his jacket.  Unfortunately I couldn’t talk to any of them as they were leaving but I got pics at least.

So with them gone and realising that the party was ending soon, I walked round and saw Tinsel Korey & Tyson Houseman chatting.  Standing next to them was Daniel Cudmore and boy is he huge!  Daniel and his date were just leaving and I wanted to stop them and say hi, but I guess I just felt so intimidated by his size!  As I stepped back, I literally walked into Cameron Bright.  He apologised, I apologised and then he said you aren’t from here.  I said no but I’d love to get his autograph and he gave it to me.  I asked someone walking past to take a pic of us and told him I’m from South Africa.  This led us to having a long conversation about the World Cup and why the red card for Khune (South Africa) was so unfair and that they should start thinking of using technology like they do in rugby and cricket!  At this point I was very grateful that my dad had taught me about sport and I could actually have a conversation about it :) .

So thinking this is it, I slowly started heading towards the door, when Kiowa Gordon & his girlfriend rushed past me.  I turned back and standing among a group of fans was Xavier Samuel.  I patiently waited to get his autograph and photo of him, when this short man ran up to Xavier and literally jumped him.  While watching these two men fool about, I realised who this short man was – David Slade.  So when they stopped, I had a chance to either speak to Xavier or to David.  I decided I’d rather chat to David.  I was so nervous to approach him and the first thing I did was tell him I loved his movie and thought he really captured the mood of the book.  He thanked me and that I am huge fan.  He thanked me again.  I then told him I travelled all the way from South Africa to be here and that got his attention.  He asked me where in SA I was from, and told him Johannesburg.  He told me had been to Cape Town a few times but never to Johannesburg and would love to come see it.  I told him he really should and that although Cape Town is beautiful with its mountains, Joburg can offer a lot too!  I asked if he would give me his autograph and would you believe he actually personalised it for me!  WOW!! Then his wife walked up and said isn’t he wonderful and I agreed.  She asked if I would like to have my photo taken with him and I said I would love it!  After that, the other ladies I was with wanted to leave and so I had to head home, but all I can say is WOW!!

I am so glad I got the opportunity, thanks to 5fm, Ster Kinekor & MiMoney and am planning on going for Breaking Dawn World Premiere next year November! :)

Eclipse Interviews: Jackson and Stephenie

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner

At the end of March we told you about Stephenie Meyer‘s new novella (The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner). This novella is finally available in South Africa and you can purchase them at various outlets:

Hollywood Crush has a review of the new Stephenie Meyer book, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. I haven’t read the book yet, so I can’t comment on the review yet. If you have read it, let us know what you think :)

Expectations weren’t as high this time. It was like we were getting a surprise piece of chocolate with our dinner bill, not a complimentary dish of crème brulée. Still, ”Twilight” fans haven’t had any new books to look forward to in almost two years, so we were excited and hopeful about ”The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner.” And I, at least, was not disappointed by the little novella. Pleasantly surprised, even.

As much as I was addicted to the “Twilight” saga, I wasn’t oblivious to its flaws. Stephenie Meyer could spend dozens of pages describing Bella doing her homework and making dinner, when we’d really rather skip to the vampire-werewolf drama going on outside. And as much as we’ve been drawn in by the heart-wrenching scenes between human and cold one, even those could get overwrought and repetitive. But here, in this 178-page little tale, Meyer has no time to get too gooey or bogged down in details. We’re dropped right into the bloody action.

Bree Tanner, a runaway who’s not sure if she reached her 16th birthday before Riley promised her a hamburger and turned her into a bloodthirsty killing machine instead, is probably one of the most tragic characters Meyer has ever created. Even as a super-strong vampire, she’s constantly in danger of being ripped apart and destroyed by the other newborns, whose complete savagery seems to be encouraged by the coven’s leaders.

Since we already know she dies at the end, we should be able to brace ourselves and not get too attached to the doomed girl. But as we get to know her, we can’t help hoping that maybe “Eclipse” got it wrong. At the beginning of the story, she’s offered a tiny glimmer of hope, a way out of the nonstop thirst and fear of her new life when a slightly older vampire Diego takes her under his wing. He’s not just an animal like the former gang members and junkies they’re forced to live with. And their mutual discovery that instead of burning to a crisp in the sun, they glitter like disco balls, is a touching moment that rivals the Bella-Edward meadow scene. It’s seriously torturous to watch Bree become enlightened, and even empowered, while also knowing that she’s days away from the end of this short second life.

Aside from an interesting character study, the story is also meant to give us a glimpse at the other side of the battle in ”Eclipse.”

USA Today Interview with Rob, Kristen & Taylor

USA Today has a new interview of Eclipse stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner.  The trio was previously in Chicago taping the special Oprah Twilight segment, when they sat down with USA Today and talked all things Twilight -

standing2pg vertical USA Today Interview with Rob, Kristen & Taylor

Dashingly disheveled Robert Pattinson has an infectious, high-pitched laugh that would never do for his seductive vampire lover-boy, Edward Cullen.  Buff-and-polished Taylor Lautner is pocket-size compared with the looming stature of his werewolf counterpart, Jacob Black.  Casual yet cool Kristen Stewart can be a real chatterbox, unlike her moody Bella Swan, the high schooler in a romantic tug of war between these two supernatural objects of teen desire.  Lucky girl, right? “Yeah, but that’s in the movies,” Stewart says about bringing to life the modern-day Gothic heroine from the insanely popular Twilight book series (85 million copies sold so far). “I’m just the ultimate fan. If you read a story and you like it andconnect to it, it probably means you’ve inserted yourself in the story, and I get to do that on the most glorified level possible.”

Hollywood fantasy regularly blends with everyday reality for these three blazing-hot rising stars. It has taken a while for a cultural navigator like Oprah Winfrey to zero in on the heat behind the literary-spawned phenom. But on this early May morning, Twilight fever is raging at Harpo Studios as the actors file into the backstage area after taping a show that aired Thursday. The occasion? Eclipse, the third chapter in an already billion-dollar worldwide franchise that arrives June 30.  The actors are unfazed by the shrieking adoration of a largely female audience, many in black Twilight T’s — Team Edward and Team Jacob are duly represented — and all handpicked for their passion for the epic movie series based on author Stephenie Meyer‘s four-part saga.

“It’s so nice sometimes, preaching to the converted,” says Pattinson, 24, the London-born overnight sex symbol and primary reason for the screams. Thanks to his devoted worshipers, he has been elevated from a little-known Harry Potter supporting player to one of Time‘s 100 most influential people in the world in less than three years. They were out in force the night before at a Winfrey-sponsored screening of an unfinished print of Eclipse.Afterward, a firestorm of fan Tweets rife with “OMGs” gushed about the much-anticipated sequel to 2008′sTwilight and last year’s New Moon.

Once Stewart, 20, painstakingly signs Winfrey’s guest book and Lautner, 18, stops practicing his grape-tossing parlor trick, the castmates settle into a buttery leather sofa to talk about such topics as the iconic moments that are re-created in Eclipse, run-ins with other celebrities and what the post-Twilight future holds.

The fame game

But, first, the pain of fame that comes from being on the paparazzi’s most-wanted list is addressed. When New Moon opened last fall, barely a day went by without seeing a headline about Lautner and country cutie Taylor Swift or speculation on whether Pattison and Stewart are a real-life couple.  Although, lately, the frenzy has calmed somewhat, judging by the number of Twilight-free magazine covers at grocery checkouts. “I don’t know if this is the actual reason why, but we have gotten better at hiding over the last year,” Pattinson says.  ”That’s totally the reason,” Stewart concurs. “They just make up a story to go along with the pictures. If they never get the picture, there’s no story. We are just good hiders now.”

Such subterfuge includes neither confirming nor denying that they are in a relationship. Yet there clearly is some sort of special connection between the two, what with their playful teasing and personal asides. Let’s just say it wasn’t Lautner who placed a hand on Pattinson’s leg during a portion of the interview.

But all three take their Twilight-related duties to heart, whatever they might require. Stewart even leaps up in a panic at one point, fearing she misspelled a word in her salutation to Winfrey. She checks the book: “Believe — ie or ei?”  ”I before e except after c,” Pattinson responds. She checks. “Oh, yeah,” she says with a triumphant fist pump.

Pattinson laughs. “I almost spelled Oprah wrong. I almost wrote Opera.”

The actors are keen to know how Eclipse played to the crowd at the screening and are pleased to hear that every element has been heightened: the horror, the romance, the three-way interaction among their characters, the touches of humor that often come at the expense of Edward and Jacob’s rivalry — especially after they forge a testy alliance to save Bella from a roving gang of rabid newborn vampires.  Stewart says of Eclipse‘s positive early reception: “It is a well-oiled machine at this point. We have had a lot of time to establish what this thing is about and a lot of time to consider it. And they gave us so much more money this time. So that is exciting.”  Pattinson, looking bemused, quickly clarifies her statement. “For the film. The budget.”  Stewart is chagrined. “Oh, my God. No, no. That didn’t even occur to me. They gave us so much more money to make the film look good!”

The leads did get raises — Stewart and Pattinson are taking home a reported $7.5 million each plus a percentage of the gross, Lautner gets $5 million — while the production’s price tag grew to $65 million, still modest compared with similar franchises.  Yet the few extra bucks seem to have paid off, especially with the effects. Even Lautner’s CG wolf alter-ego is more adorable than in New Moon. “Yeah,” says the actor, sheepishly. “It was very cuddly. I don’t know if that’s what we were aiming for.”  He waffles over the wisdom of sharing an anecdote about the scene in which the vicious horse-sized beast sweetly nuzzles Bella and she scratches his ear. After a little coaxing, he relents.

“That day I came on set and put on this tight gray spandex suit …”  ”There is dialogue and I talk to him,” Stewart explains. “I said, ‘How am I going to do this without Taylor?’ ” So instead of the actress pretending that a massive computer-animated wolf was nearby, Lautner volunteered to be its stand-in.  ”Basically, it looked like a Teletubby,” he continues about his outfit. “I had this circle on the face but everything else was covered. It was weird. But, yeah, I stood there and would literally bend over …”  ”I would actually pet his head,” Stewart adds.

Pattinson, meanwhile, struggled with Edward’s rather formal proposal to Bella, which reflects the fact that although his vintage vampire looks 17, he hails from the turn of the last century.  ”I was dreading the day it was coming,” he says of the scene that was held until the very end of the shoot. “The first time I read the script, I thought, ‘This is impossible.’ ” References to “promenades” and sharing “iced tea on the porch” as Edward explains how he would have courted Bella in the old days especially stuck in his throat. “It’s so earnest. I finally convinced the producers that you can play it with a bit of awareness of not being a fictional character. I’m not trying to be part of a Gothic novel.”  When Pattinson finally watched it, however, he was pleasantly surprised. “It seems different when you see it.”

Their profiles have grown with each film, and celebrity status does afford them the chance to mingle with their own idols. Although, more often than not, the other stars are the ones bedazzled as they request autographs for their Twilight-crazed kids.  ”I took a picture with Ron Howard last year at the Oscars,” Pattinson recalls. “I thought it was the funniest thing. I asked, ‘Is it for your kids?’ He said, ‘No, it’s for me. I want to have it on my phone.’ ” Making the situation even odder: Howard’s daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard, is in Eclipse.

Alas, Pattinson has yet to run into his favorite, Jack Nicholson.  Stewart pipes up: “I have.”  Pattinson: “What? When did you meet?”  Stewart: “At a screening for Into the Wild,” her 2007 coming-of-age drama directed by Sean Penn. “He was exactly like you think he would be.”  Pattinson, sounding peeved: “You never told me that.”  Lautner joins in. “I didn’t meet him but I sat next to him at a Lakers game.”  Pattinson, utterly exasperated: “What?”
