Melissa Rosenberg Talks Breaking Dawn

MTV caught up with Melissa Rosenberg at The Emmy’s Red Carpet and talked about Breaking Dawn.  She says that the battle scene has been an enormous challenge.

MTV News was lucky enough to catch up with “Dexter” writer-turned – “The Twilight Saga” scribe, Melissa Rosenberg last night at the Emmy’s red carpet. As is our natural response when face-to-face with anyone involved in the “Twilight” universe, we had to ask for any update on “Breaking Dawn”, which begins shooting in November.

Fortunately, Melissa is the best woman to talk to considering she is writing the not-yet-finished script. She told us that the two screenplays (for “Part 1″ and “Part 2″) are about 75 to 80 percent completed. A bit surprisingly, it’s the finale of the second film that is giving her the toughest time, and not “Part 1′s” infamous birthing scene.

“The final battle sequence is a big challenge because it lasts 25 pages,” she said.  ”It’s almost an entire three-act story in and of itself. You have to track (keep it all in one setting) hundreds of characters. It’s an enormous challeng to choreograph on the page and for Bill [Condon] to choreograph on the stage.”

It sounds like Melissa has written versions of both screenplays, but it’s just the matter of perfecting them that is the issue. Melissa said she hasn’t had a chance to go over her ideas with director Bill Condon yet, which makes finalizing the script impossible.

“I’ve written a couple of drafts [of the scene]; I haven’t gotten with Bill [to go over it] yet,” she said.  ”That’s the next big hurdle to sit down with the stunt coordinator and create the ballet. It’s a lot of work. I’m exhausted, but we’re intent on making them the best scripts yet.”

So with a few months to go before filming of Breaking Dawn starts and 442-days  till the premiere, what are your thoughts on this?  Are you excited yet?? What scenes are you most looking forward to?

For those of you who can’t watch the video, here is what it covers :)
Melissa says we will get to see the birth scene in the book in as much detail as possible, they are not planning on “shying away from anything, the birth should be as horrifying as it is in the novel, the sex scenes should be as scintillating as they are in the novel, as erotic as they are in the novel, I think all of it, you’ll see all of it”
With Regard to Bella’s transformation, she hopes we will get to see all of it, Special effects will play a role as will the actor in portraying Bella’s change correctly. She discusses how we will need to get into her mind as her hearing gets sharper and what she is feeling and watching her muscles sharpening and other physiological changes he experiences and how it is mostly up to the Director.
Melissa tells us that the split between the two movies will probably be around the time of Bella’s transformation from human, pregnant and newlywed to vampire, she is confident they will find a break in there somewhere ;)
->this is all being decided now ;)

New Interview With Melissa Rosenberg

Film.com has an exclusive new interview with Twilight Saga screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg where she talks about Breaking Dawn, the Twilight Saga Directors and so much more.

24280841 24280847 large New Interview With Melissa RosenbergMelissa Rosenberg is a busy woman. In the past few years she’s adapted three parts of The Twilight Saga for the screen, all the while writing and producing for the hit Showtime series Dexter. How does she balance her life and work? What can we expect from Breaking Dawn? And what’s the difference between the three directors she’s worked with on TwilightNew Moon, and Eclipse? All those answers and more in our exclusive interview.

Laremy Legel: When I talked to you for Twilight you were just dipping your toes into the fandom, and what it was all about. Do you check fan sites these days?

Melissa Rosenberg: I stay off the Internet, because I’m very sensitive to commentary. There could be 10 comments of “Fabulous job!” and one “She’s horrible!” and it completely throws me. When you’re writing you’re constantly fighting demons to sit down and do what you do. If you listen to the voices outside your head, in addition to the ones inside your head, you’ll never get anything done. There’s enough inner strife.

I do, however, maintain a fan site, where people are mostly kind. It’s interesting reading their comments, because they talk about what’s important to them, what things really register, what things I need to capture. So I do rely on that.

LL: I think your writing has amazing range; from Dexter to Twilight is a pretty big distance. But do you worry about being locked into a particular genre? Do screenwriters get typecast? Or does that not happen?

27863616 27863617 medium New Interview With Melissa RosenbergMR: Oh, it happens all the time. You become the “teen voice” writer. Studios, because they are investing a great deal of money in movies, they want a guarantee that when they hire somebody that person can deliver for them. Everything is fear based, so they pigeonhole people. But I’ve written everything, from Westerns to sci-fi to dramedy, I’ve done it all. I have my strengths and my weaknesses, and the things I prefer not to do, but like most writers I can do, and like to do, a variety of things.

I’m sure I’ll be offered all sorts of romantic teen dramas as I move forward, because I’ve now written plenty of them, and I won’t be doing that again. It’s not of interest me. I do lean more towards doing different kinds of things.

Breaking Dawn Will Be 2 Movies

Nikki Finke, a showbiz journalist, has confirmed to Splashfilm.com, that Breaking Dawn, the final book (for now) in the Twilight Saga, will be made into 2 movies.  :) Back to back filming will begin in October 2010. Melissa Rosenberg, screenwriter for the first three Twilight Saga films, has already begun work on the Breaking Dawn adaptation.

It is a smart move for Summit to act quick on the remaining chapters of the Twilight series as the stars are getting older and who knows how long this insane fan craziness will last, really. Also, using the same crew for two films shot together will save on a lot of costs. Deadline says that Summit is looking at “high-end” directors for the conclusion of the Twilight Saga. I really can’t imagine any huge name filmmakers aligned with this series, but I also never imagined David Slade or Chris Weitz would ever be involved. David Slade’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is already in the can and awaiting release in June 2010

Are you as excited about this news as I am?? :D
