We at Twilightseries.co.za would like to wish Edi Gathegi a very happy birthday today!

He was born Edi Mue Gathegi, in Nairobi, Kenya on 10 March 1979. His parents moved to California, where he grew up. As an undeclared undergraduate at the University of California, Santa Barbara, he was more interested in playing basketball and was good at it, right until he injured his knee; This plunged him into a depression so he took up an acting class as an “easy course”. That is where he discovered his love for acting. Afterwards, he attended the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University for a graduate school acting program. Gathegi’s career began in theater, and his stage credits include Two Trains Running at the Old Globe Theatre, As You Like It, Twelfth Night, Othello, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Cyrano de Bergerac, among others.
Gathegi’s first professional role was the Haitian Cabbie in the 2006 film, Crank. Though he had originally auditioned for the role of Kaylo, the producers gave the role to Efren Ramirez and instead offered Gathegi an appearance as the Haitian Cabbie. He was dubious at first about performing a Haitian accent, but was coached by his Haitian friend. In 2007, after guest-starring on Lincoln Heights and Veronica Mars, Edi went on to star as Bodie in Death Sentence, Darudi in The Fifth Patient and Cheese in Gone Baby Gone. He later had a recurring role as Mormon intern Dr. Jeffrey Cole on the television medical drama House, and guest-starred on CSI: Miami, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Life on Mars in 2008. before being cast as Laurent in Twilight. When Edi first auditioned for the 2008 film,Twilight, he had not heard of the series and was not aware that his character was a vampire. He now has read the whole series and calls himself a hardcore fan. Edi reprised his role as Laurent in New Moon and what a great job he did.

This past Friday Ster Kinekor / MiMoney had a New Moon Party at Taboo in Sandton. I was one of the lucky ones who won tickets to this party. On arrival, we all received a free drink, and showed the photo shoot, whereby you could use their props and have your photo taken. These photos will be available on BiteMyApple this week and you can vote for your favourite. The one with the most votes, will be used as part of the next poster
How exciting!
So back to the party, those who wanted to could get stick on tatoos – either vampire bite marks or the wolf tattoo. Needless to say, I took the vampire bite marks
They also had actors/models who were dressed up as our favourite characters from New Moon: Laurent, Victoria, Edward, Bella, Jacob and Alice (who were all wearing red contact lenses) They were available for photos with the crowd and we made the most of these
!! There were also photo booths available that you and your friends could go have photos taken and printed immediately. For those of us dancing, they had glitter that you could put on, so that you could ’sparkle’ and then they gave out torches to those on the dance floor and switched off the lights – it was brilliant!! all through the night, they gave out snacks, toffee apples, lolly pops etc. It was really well organised and enjoyed by most!
All in all, we had a fabulous time and crawled home at 4am!! It was amazing – thank you Ster Kinekor and MiMoney.
So here are some pics I took during the evening. If you see yourself or someone you know, please feel free to tag the photo and add your own story (I’ve edited the pics – sorry yesterday they were too large to view properly
)
If any of you were there, please feel free to email your pics and we will add them to these

Edi Gathegi is on the cover of Fangoria’s issue #288. This magazine is a horror magazine, and shows Edi as Laurent in New Moon. The magazine writes, ““NEW MOON,” NEW MONSTERS Love triangles can be scary, but hopefully the second “Twilight” film will offer more to frighten us. *Contains Exclusive Cast Interviews, and a full gallery of never-before-seen exclusive photos!”
We will have to wait and see when the magazine is out to read the article.
