LA Eclipse Premiere

After 11 Hours to London, 5 hours stop over and another 10 hours to LA, we finally landed at LAX and was picked up by our driver in a Escalade.  Immediately I felt like a star.  We had plenty to keep us busy till Thursday – the day of the Eclipse Premiere.  I could not sleep the night before and was bursting on Thursday.  We headed off to the spa and had our hair done, after which we got ready for the Eclipse World Premiere.  Unfortunately, we arrived late and after collecting our tickets and handing in our cameras and cell phones, we went straight into The Nokia Theatre.  We all received popcorn(which came in an Eclipse cup) & cooldrink.  We watched the end of the red carpet on screens in the cinema.

At about 20h30, the lights dimmed and in walked Robert Pattinson.  The audience went wild.  He was followed by Kristen Stewart & Taylor Lautner, each time the audience screamed.  And then, Eclipse was shown.  It was the most amazing experience to know I was watching this movie in the same theatre as the stars –all of them seated just in front of me.  The audience showed their appreciation of either the stars or the scenes with a quick clapping of hands or scream (when Taylor was shirtless of course), but they quickly quietened down each time, which allowed us all to enjoy the movie.  After the screening, we filed out and collected our cameras and cell phones, which took quite a while.  We then proceeded across the lot to the roof top garage, where a huge tent was erected and the after party was.  It wasn’t very crowded when we arrived and we sort of just wandered around.  In each corner of the tent, they had raised lounges, which were cordoned off.  This was where the stars were, but you could see them and take photos.  They had food and drinks available for everyone and great music playing.

As I was walking around, I saw Gil Birmingham just sitting on the side having a drink. Of course I approached him and asked if I could get his autograph and a photo with him.  He agreed and then I told him I was from South Africa and he told me he would love to visit one day… Lets hope so!  Next I walked past one of the lounges and saw Taylor Lautner in the on the other side.  While walking round, I spotted Nikki Reed and Elizabeth Reaser and quickly snapped pics of them.  As I approached the other side, I realised that Taylor’s body guards were getting ready for him to leave and I quickly snapped some pics of him.  While waiting for him to leave and possibly get a better shot, who should also be leaving – Stephenie Meyer :) Then Taylor’s body guard made a path for him and guess who they shoved him right past – yours truly!! Naturally I just put my hand out and softly brushed his jacket.  Unfortunately I couldn’t talk to any of them as they were leaving but I got pics at least.

So with them gone and realising that the party was ending soon, I walked round and saw Tinsel Korey & Tyson Houseman chatting.  Standing next to them was Daniel Cudmore and boy is he huge!  Daniel and his date were just leaving and I wanted to stop them and say hi, but I guess I just felt so intimidated by his size!  As I stepped back, I literally walked into Cameron Bright.  He apologised, I apologised and then he said you aren’t from here.  I said no but I’d love to get his autograph and he gave it to me.  I asked someone walking past to take a pic of us and told him I’m from South Africa.  This led us to having a long conversation about the World Cup and why the red card for Khune (South Africa) was so unfair and that they should start thinking of using technology like they do in rugby and cricket!  At this point I was very grateful that my dad had taught me about sport and I could actually have a conversation about it :) .

So thinking this is it, I slowly started heading towards the door, when Kiowa Gordon & his girlfriend rushed past me.  I turned back and standing among a group of fans was Xavier Samuel.  I patiently waited to get his autograph and photo of him, when this short man ran up to Xavier and literally jumped him.  While watching these two men fool about, I realised who this short man was – David Slade.  So when they stopped, I had a chance to either speak to Xavier or to David.  I decided I’d rather chat to David.  I was so nervous to approach him and the first thing I did was tell him I loved his movie and thought he really captured the mood of the book.  He thanked me and that I am huge fan.  He thanked me again.  I then told him I travelled all the way from South Africa to be here and that got his attention.  He asked me where in SA I was from, and told him Johannesburg.  He told me had been to Cape Town a few times but never to Johannesburg and would love to come see it.  I told him he really should and that although Cape Town is beautiful with its mountains, Joburg can offer a lot too!  I asked if he would give me his autograph and would you believe he actually personalised it for me!  WOW!! Then his wife walked up and said isn’t he wonderful and I agreed.  She asked if I would like to have my photo taken with him and I said I would love it!  After that, the other ladies I was with wanted to leave and so I had to head home, but all I can say is WOW!!

I am so glad I got the opportunity, thanks to 5fm, Ster Kinekor & MiMoney and am planning on going for Breaking Dawn World Premiere next year November! :)

Exclusive Interview With Daniel Cudmore

Fearnet.com held an interview with Daniel Cudmore who plays Volturi guard member, Felix.

Although werewolves are the natural enemies of vampires in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Edward Cullen has another enemy lurking in the tunnels beneath Volterra: Felix, a wall of muscle with a mean streak and a penchant for punishing errant vampires with his fists. To play the Volturi enforcer, director Chris Weitz enlisted 6’8” Canadian actor Daniel Cudmore, a part-time stunt actor best known as the shirtless mutant Colossus in X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand.

FEARnet: What’s it been like to jump into this huge Twilight phenomenon? Daniel Cudmore at the Twilight fan party

Daniel Cudmore: It’s been great! It’s such a big film. On the first film, they did such a good job of identifying what Stephenie Meyer had written, and you come into New Moon knowing that you already have this great audience from the books and a great audience from the first film. New Moon compared to the book has so much more action – you’re bringing in the werewolves, you’re bringing in the Volturi, so now you have a new audience of males that can watch this and really enjoy it. You step into this great film and it’s just fun to play a cool character and just enjoy yourself with it.

FN: You’ve mentioned before that you originally auditioned for a different part than Felix. What part was it?

DC: It was one of the guys outside the bar who try to pick up Bella, one of the bikers.

FN: Your big scene looked like a fun one to film – you basically throw Robert Pattinson around the Volturi chamber in a sequence featuring really cool stunt choreography.

DC: Mike Desabrais was the fight choreographer and he worked with [stunt choreographer] J.J. Makaro. I’ve worked with J.J. in the past and I was fortunate enough to just call him and say, “Can I work on as much of this fight scene as possible?” And he was really cool about saying, “Yeah, we’ll get you to do as much as we can.” I worked with Robert [Pattinson] on it, also. He really enjoyed himself. Those guys put together such a cool fight scene. Once you start building on it and working on it and start piecing it together… I haven’t seen the final product but I know the whole fight, obviously, since I’ve done it. I’m just really excited to see what it’s going to look like on the big screen.

FN: How much of the Edward-Felix fight scene actually featured Robert Pattinson doing his own stunts?

DC: He did a lot of it. He was game for it. I remember when he first came in saying, “I can’t do this stuff, I’m kind of clumsy, I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it,” and he started really trying it and was getting it right away. He’s starting to smile, having a good time. When it came to filming I think he was really excited about a lot of it. So it was quite a bit of him and a lot of his stunt double, Simon Burnett. I think Rob did maybe 40 or 50 percent [of his own stunts].

FN: Your character, Felix, is a wall of a man, an enforcer. But even he seems afraid of Jane. Would you say that’s true? Is Felix really scared, deep down, of little Dakota Fanning?

DC: You could look at it as him being afraid, but I think she has such a strong power; I think the character of Felix has probably been through pain and things like that, but I think more or less he views Aro as his master, and Jane can be considered Aro’s daughter, in a way. So he doesn’t want to do anything to harm her, because then he’ll be reprimanded by Aro.

FN: Well, it seems like one of the challenges of playing Felix would be that there’s not a whole lot written about him in Stephenie Meyer’s books. How did you get around that in approaching Felix?

DC: You have to kind of build something up, so that you can relate to it. You bring your own story of what you feel this character is. I picture him as having all this anger from being jealous that he doesn’t have a power, and Aro thinks of all the other vampires as higher than him even though he does his job perfectly all the time. And he’s worked with Demetri, and they’ve worked with the team for so long and have done such a great job.

FN: How much time did you spend shooting Eclipse?

DC: Not a ton. I think a week, in total.

FN: What impression did you get of director David Slade from working with him on Eclipse?

DC: I liked him. I thought he was really cool. He’s got a really dark sense of humor and he’s one of those people that you can see has the whole thing worked out in his head. He’s really driven. And he’s fun to be around. I really like people who are so concentrated they know what they want to get out of each shot. You see 30 Days of Night – I really enjoyed that film, so I’m excited to see what his interpretation is going to be.

Daniel Cudmore talks New Moon

In a new interview with Daniel Cudmore, he discusses his role of Felix in the upcoming Twilight film, ‘New Moon‘ he says of his role: “With playing Felix I have the chance to be on the bad side.” Cudmore discusses what it was like to work with Taylor Lautner, and Chris Weitz.  (This interview was done in German and translated – so the English isn’t always great :) )

Daniel CudmoreQ: What is your favourite scene in New Moon?
A: Italy, definitely Italy. Everything’s just been great there.

Q: For all of the your extra strengths whether in X-Men or New Moon – which extra strength would you like to possess?
A: It would be flying or being invisible so I could pick on people.

Q: How was the chemistry on the set of New Moon?
A: We all came together there. It was great! There hadn’t been any feeling of stepping on another’s toes.

Q: What was the feeling like on set?
A: It wasn’t any crazy because Chris Weitz just always calmed the air on set.

Q: Do you like the character you play in the Twilight Saga?
A: Of course I do. With playing Felix I have the chance to be on the bad side. And it’s fun playing a dark character.

Q:When you “transformed” into Felix for the first time what were your first thoughts?
A: I was staring at myself in the mirror for a few moments and then I was like ‘Wow those contacts are bright! So cool!’

Q: If you could choose to play a character apart from Felix which one would it be?
A: It would be one of the werewolves. Would be interesting.

Q: Would you ever do another franchise like Harry Potter or The Hobbit?
A: Sure, yeah I would even do The Hobbit (laughs cause we all know that he’s way too big for this role).

Q: Which clan would you choose – the Volturi or the Cullens?Daniel Cudmore as Felix
A: Definitely the Volturi cause literally I would be running around eating people.

Q: How was it to play with Halle Berry?
A: She’s really a sweetheart and very funny. I mean it’s great to tell your friends at the bar after a day of shooting ‘yeah I had to hug Halle Berry this morning…uugh…it was tough’. (laughs)

Q: What’s your favourite Twilight book?
A: New Moon of course. It’s so much action in it and hey I’m in it.

Q: What do you think is the reason for people being so interested in vampire stories?
A: I think it’s the way of living forever and their super human strength. And they can lift cars.

Q: Who is the most favourite person you’ve ever worked with?
A: It’s Charlie Bewley. We just clicked. We got along very well especially on the set.

Q: What is your favourite New Moon movie scene?
A: Definitely me fighting Taylor as a werewolf. He’s a great kid! I guess all of the werewolf scenes.

Q: What is your favourite Disney character?
A: Mary Poppins! As a kid I always liked her umbrella.

Q: Is there something you don’t like?
A: To be in claustrophobic places.

Q: Bad or good guy?
A: The bad guy cause it’s kinda fun.

Q: Do you have a favourite TV show?
A: Yes, I would say it’s “True Blood”.

Q: What is your favourite movie?
A: I don’t really have one. I like movies which are funny or scary.

Q: If you could play another character instead of Felix who would it be?
A: I wouldn’t want to play another character. Cause playing Felix was lots of fun.

Q: What is your favourite role you played?
A: They are all so different. But I’d say Felix cause he’s a bad guy. In general it’s always the role that comes next.

Q: Which famous actor would you like to act with?
A: Johnny Depp….Brad Pitt. And if I would meet these guys I would feel like a little kid.

Q: Would you think that the character of Felix would like Buffy if she came along?
A: Yeah I think he would like her. But I also think he would feel a conflict in eating or not eating her. There might be a good wrestling match between the two of them. She’s a good character.

Q: Edward or Jacob?
A. Jacob.

Q: In the fighting scene with Edward – was it you or a stuntdouble?
A: Fortunately it was me. But I had a talk with the stunt coordinator before. I was so happy I could do it myself. I’m really excited what’s it look like on screen.

Q: Did you read the Twilight saga books?
A: I read 3 in a row.

Q: What kind of role do you prefer?
A: Every normal character is complex and I am lucky enough to play all those different roles.

Q: How did you prepare for New Moon?
A: It was the 1st time I kinda had clothes on (laughs). Physically I trained for myself and mentally I prepared myself by reading the books.

Q: When you were shooting in Italy could you see some culture of this country?
A: Not much cause of the shooting. But I drank a lot of wine!(laughs)

Q: With all the fans that are surrounding you all the time has it ever been annoying?
A: I was taken aback especially when I shooted in Italy. the passion of the fans to the books have been great.
Q: Do you like vampire movies in general?
A: Yeah, especially “Interview with a vampire”.

Q: If you could be a vampire in real life would you do that?
A: I don’t think I would cause I like sleeping way too much.

Q: When you got the role of Felix what have been your first thoughts?
A: First I talked with no one about it until it was through. Second ‘I hope I don’t screw this thing up!’

Q:What do you like more – filming at home oder abroad?
A: You know there’s always two sides of a story. I like filming at home cause I can be home a lot. But when I am shooting abroad I always got the chance to visit and experience other countries. And by the way I really like Germany. I don’t really get to see much of it unfortunately but the beer is awesome.

Q: How was the work with Dakota?
A: She is amazing. Everytime you are around her you feel like this girl’s got an old soul. She’s really down-to-earth and very cool.

Q: Do you have pets?
A: At the moment I don’t have one but I really like to have a dog someday.
Q: What’s your favorite song?
A: I don’t really have a farvorite but I hear Kings of Leon very often at the moment. I was at their show in Vancouver.
