New Moon Trailer – What’s Missing?

MTV has an article up by Larry Carroll about what hasn’t yet been revealed in the New Moon trailers & what they hope to see:

Where are the Volturi? Or Jacob’s wingman Quil Ateara? We give you a rundown of what we want to see more of in ‘New Moon.’Taylor Lautner (Jacob) and Kristen Stewart (Bella) in Bella's bedroom

Shirtless Taylor Lautner? In-costume Dakota Fanning? Strung-out-looking Robert Pattinson? Check, check and check. But although the “New Moon” trailer entitled “Meet Jacob Black” gave us plenty of fun things to look at — again, and again, and again — it also continued to omit plenty.

Depending on your point of view, the two “New Moon” trailers have either held back all the best stuff or done a good job of giving us glimpses at just enough to get our butts in theater seats. But at the risk of paraphrasing Veruca Salt: We want it all, and we want it now! Here’s our list of the Top Five Things We Still Need to See From “New Moon.”

The Cliff DiveKristen Stewart told us long ago that Bella’s pivotal cinematic near-suicide will be CGI, and we’ve got to admit: We’re still a bit concerned.  This could be the most powerful moment in “New Moon,” but so far, nothing official. Come on, Chris Weitz — cough it up!

Jacob (Taylor Lautner) teaching Bella (Kristen Stewart) to ride the motorbikeFight Scenes — Although Catherine Hardwicke’s “Twilight” won the hearts of millions of women, it won’t be stealing men away from sports and “Star Trek” sequels anytime soon. Now, with male directors in place for the next two films — and increasingly darker, more action-oriented plotlines to come — it’s time to start convincing the dudes that seeing “New Moon” will do more than put you in your lady’s good graces. But what have we glimpsed so far? Shirtless Jacob, shirt-open Edward, shirtless wolf pack. “Fight Club” gave the same number of abs, but also brought along just as many punches to the face — so bring back the honey and chicken, already!

The Vanishing Volturi — As any good Twilighter knows, the Volturi feature prominently not only in “New Moon,” but also in the overall arc of the “Twilight” saga. So, why have they become the J.D. Salinger of the film series? We want full-on, official shots of Aro, Caius, Marcus and the rest. No more slowing down video clips to see if that’s Michael Sheen in the background — it’s time to bring out the big guns.Bella confronts Sam and the wolf pack

Quil Be Seeing You — Everybody’s got their own favorite quasi-obscure “Twilight” character, and mine is Jacob’s “wingman” Quil Ateara. We know he’s played by Tyson Houseman in the film, but we haven’t seen so much as a publicity shot yet. Sure, some might laugh — but I’ll be wearing a “Team Quil” shirt when I see the film on opening night. Which reminds me of a second complaint: Why has no one invented “Team Quil” T-shirts yet?

It Ain’t Easy Being Human— They’re the nicest people in the world and the backbone of the “Twilight” film series: Mike Welch, Christian Serratos, Justin Chon, Anna Kendrick, Billy Burke and others. But although these fan favorites are among the most visible at “Twilight” conventions and other events, we haven’t seen so much as a glimpse of them in the “New Moon” trailers. It’s bad enough that these guys don’t get to pretend they have superhuman powers, the ability to live forever or even a clue as to all the craziness going on in Forks. “Twilight” is nothing without the humanity that Stephenie Meyer injected into it — here’s hoping that Weitz remembers that element as he’s working all those long hours and late nights in the “New Moon” editing bay.

So what do you think?  Does the New Moon trailer really live up to your expectations and what are you dying to see?

Eclipse & Breaking Dawn: Bring On The magic…

You will all be really glad to know that Eclipse is scheduled to start filming and Breaking Dawn… will be made into a movie!!

Currently Melissa Rosenberg is still busy writing the screenplay for Eclipse and so none of the actors have seen any of it yet, but Eclipse has been given the go ahead, filming for the third installment of the Twilight series will begin filming on the 17 August this year. It will include the same cast we have come to know and love and will be directed by 30 days of night director David Slade. The cast should be heading back up to Vancouver this summer to begin filming :)

Ah, and Breaking Dawn… Robert Pattinson and Ashley Greene have revealed that Breaking dawn will be made into a movie and filming will begin right after Eclipse. Pattinson has signed on for the B.D but presently Kristen Stewart is only rumoured to keep her part as Bella. Summit has been keen, ever since the success of Twilight, to get the movies out as fast as possible to avoid any potential problems so Breaking Dawn should hit theatres in 2011 at the latest (which is not as far away as it seems when we are getting a film every year)

There is no word on who will be directing B.D, according to Ashley Greene, none of the previous directors will work on the fourth film: ”[Eclipse director] David [Slade] and [New Moon director] Chris [Weitz] will both be busy in postproduction, and Catherine [Hardwicke] will be doing Hamlet.”

There have also been rumours about twilight ‘spin-off’s’ now that Summit is almost out of Twilight books to make into films, but  more on that at a later stage…

Chris VS Catherine

shacktwilightcast1 Chris VS CatherineWhen a written series is such a success -like the Twilight series- and it is turned into a set of movies it is both exciting and a little scary. So often brilliant books are made into amateur movies and if you have read the books it is tough to watch a badly done film of that story. Twilight was, in my opinion, very well done. It stayed very true to the book and aside from average special effects I thought it was a great film. Catherine Hardwicke did a great job with the time and budget that she had.

But, we all know she is not directing New Moon, the infamous Chris weitz has taken the task upon himself. Firstly he is a man… so it is possible he spends more time on the action aspects and special effects than the love story -this is not so bad because New Moon lends itself to that; it is a story of loss and recovery. Chris has a bigger budget but also time constraints where previously Catherine had more time but a much lesser budget.

It is not fair to compare the two directors but it is innevitable that that will happen and Peter Facinelli is one of the first: from Eonline!

Peter Facinelli told the A.T.:

“When we shot Twilight, it felt like it was an indie. We were racing the clock. Catherine [Hardwicke] was fantastic, but with New Moon it felt like we had more time to play. The atmospheres were different. They were both great…in their own ways. I just think New Moon is going to be incredible.”

The Cullens

Michael Welch also told us how better prepared they were to film from day one.

“When we all got on the set the first day, [Chris Weitz] gave us this packet of 30 to 40 pages of what he wanted the film to look and feel like—how he was going to shoot it, all of that stuff. The thing is, both Chris and Catherine—I don’t want to say one is better than the other. They are polar opposites in terms of style. Catherine can only succeed in chaos, really. But Chris is the exact opposite; he’s so calm and has all his stuff together. He really made this film great.”

Contrary to some reports out there, Christian Serratos (who plays Angela) dished that New Moon is “still really close to the book, but it’s hard to explain.”

“When I read the script [for Twilight], I was just like oh my God. I knew what was going to happen because I’d read the book, but when I read this script. Wow. I was on pins and needles wondering what was coming next. It’s just that good.”

I have to be honest, when I heard Chris Weitz was going to direct New Moon I was so excited. He is incredibly talented and can work miracles on screen but I do hope he stays true to the book and that in the midst of creating such epic special effects he doesn’t forget the story. He has a tough audience and we expect nothing less than magic! ;) At least we know Catherine Hardwicke has already done a brilliant job ;)

What do you think? Will New Moon be better than Twilight -as a complete package?

Most anticipated scenes

newmoon movie 300x193 Most anticipated scenesThe book is filled with tons of exciting moments, but writing and acting are two very different ways of portraying the same ideas. When something is written, nothing is impossible and nothing is far fetched (ok, the latter is very subjective) but when these fantastical notions are put on film, it gets very hard for the cast and crew to deliver on the more unbelievable aspects. Catherine Hardwicke did a very good job in Twilight, making many oblivious movie-goers into full blown fans of the story (yours truly included!!)

My point is that while the movie was quite well done, the special effects were a little bit… disappointing. The part where Edward launches out of his bedroom window with Bella on his back, you can practically see the cable dragging him, or when Emmet jumps for the ball in the baseball game (when he crashes into Edward) they may as well have left the trampoline in the scene. This can put a huge dampen on the experience when the special effects… just aren’t that special.

With Chris Weitz (as I may have mentioned in too many posts at this point…lol) I think the special effects are going to be EPIC, for lack of a better word and I cannot bear the anticipation! I, initially tried to only include my top 5 but I failed miserably… just can’t help myself I am a twihard fan lol. Obviously these top picks are spoilers if you have not read the book, so if you would like the story to remain a mystery don’t click the spoiler and let it all be surprise…

Let me know what you are most excited to see by leaving a comment below, as you can see it is very easy to get carried away while reminiscing about the book

Drew Barrymore to direct Eclipse?

Drew Barrymore headshot
Image via Wikipedia

Twilight director, Catherine Hardwick turned down directing New Moon, saying she couldn’t work under the allocated budget and time-constraints, despite being offered a quantifiable sum of money to stay on board. She says she was devastated, feeling connected, to the actors, fans and author; Stephenie Meyer but she didn’t believe she could deliver a good enough movie considering the limitations these constraints created.

There have been many rumours that Drew Barrymore will direct the third movie in Stephenie Meyers Twilight Series, Eclipse. In fact, she is only one of many in the running to direct the third installment of the series. While she is excited to have been considered for the job, it seems to be of general consensus among fans that she is not the ‘right man for the job’.

According to Entertainment Weekly the rumours are just that; they state that either Paul Weitz (American Dreamz), brother of New Moon director Chris Weitz (Golden Compass) may be directing Eclipse due to Chris’s New Moon post-production schedule, or possibly, James Mangold (Walk The Line) they also mention that Summit Entertainment has selected Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona to direct Eclipse. He is relatively unknown to American audiences. In 2008 he directed the highly acclaimed Spanish horror film The Orphanage and is the protege of Guillermo Del Toro, who directed Hellboy.

When a director is confirmed I will make sure You are in the know! ;)
