Jackson Rathbone Uncut – from Nylon Mag

Jackson Rathbone recently did an interview with Nylon Mag.  The video we posted earlier (check it out here), was from this interview.  Enjoy :)

You might know Jackson Rathbone from the Twilight series, where he plays Jasper Hale.  And you might know Jackson Rathbone as the rock musician who plays in the band 100 Monkeys.  But soon you’ll know him as something else – the sci-fi action hero from M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender, an adaptation of the Nickelodeon anime cartoon.
Does anyone call you by your real first name, Monroe?  I still go by Monroe when I am in trouble with the law.

Which is… often?  Very rarely; very rarely. I don’t get so much as a speeding ticket these days but I am a habitual parking violator.

I know M. Night Shyamalan is famous for his secrecy.  But what can you tell us about The Last Airbender?
Well I can say it is going to be an amazing action film; it’s got the most incredible CGI. We got ILM working on it, which is Industrial Lights and Magic, and it truly is magic, honestly, at the end of the day. We are shooting on the green screen, we have a character called Appa?  Which is a big bison kind of flying bear creature?  And that’s me, I’m a big flying bear creature.

Nice try.  Okay, no, but I get to ride it.

Not a real flying bear?   No, I rode a fuzzy saddle. It was about 15-20 feet off the ground.  It’s on this kind of rocking thing… They were moving it, and there is a big green screen behind you. Night’s yelling, “Okay, you’re flying through the air now!” You’re like, “Okay, I am flying through the air now.”  And oh yeah, I had to be flying through the air, and no, I wasn’t on any drugs.

Maybe there was good liquor on set?   I can hold my liquor! I’m from the South, come on now. You know, I love Jameson Whiskey, and I love Bud Light, I keep it pretty simple.  I was actually in a bar recently, and they only had three beers on tap, and it was Bud with lime on tap! I had to give the bar tender a little, you know, guff for that one. Are you kidding me? You don’t even have Bud Light on tap? You don’t even have Lonestar on tap? You only have Bud Light Lemon-Lime?!

I hope you lamented about your lime beer problems during your Last Airbenderaudition.  Oh, I didn’t have to audition.  I actually had my part delivered by an owl, followed by a list of magical school supplies… No, no, I did the normal auditioning process. Actually I had auditioned for M. Night’s The Happening before… then I met Night and we hit it off.

I heard in an M. Night movie, you don’t ever see the full script….  At the audition you only get the lines you’re gonna say, but  this movie in particular based off the Nickelodeon animated series, so it’s a departure from Night’s thrillers. It’s about finding the hero within against all odds, and it’s got some of the most incredible action sequences, with all of these characters being able to manipulate the elements and being able to throw fire and throw water to block it… However, my character only gets to throw a boomerang.  That’s not as rock n’ roll as being able to bend water.

So you can’t bend water.  What else can’t you do?  Iron. You want to watch me iron, you’ll see how bad I am. I like my clothes wrinkled anyway, so it’s fine. But one of my band mates taught me a trick; his name is Lawrence Abrams and he’s a jazz musician; he’s about 56 years old. He taught me the old put it on a coat hanger and put it in the shower and let it steam up a bit. First time I did it though, I put it in the shower, and that was wrong. You don’t put it in the shower because it gets wet.  See?  I learned.

You’re an actor with a band, 100 Monkeys.  Do you think you’ll do anything to combine those two passions?  Obviously, I’m going to star in Twilight the musical.  The scary thing is, I bet they’re totally making one, like, right now!

100 Monkeys -Ugly Girl

As many of you know, Jackson Rathbone (who plays Jasper in the Twilight Saga) is a member of the rock band 100 Monkeys. Here is their latest song: Ugly Girl. I must admit it is the first song of theirs that I have listened to and I think I enjoyed it ;) Jackson surprised me on vocals and the video is quite funny. There has been talk of 100 Monkeys possibly being on the Eclipse soundtrack so let me know what you think, are they any good?

MTV: Top Ten Twilight Moments

MTV have compiled a list of their top ten Twilight related moments, we have them below but check out MTV for the info and videos.Twilight Cartoon

1. Spunk Ransom is born

In one of his first interviews for the “Twilight” franchise, MTV News had nearly an hour alone with the soon-to-be A-lister on the set of the film. Among the many questions we brought him was: “What do you think of your nickname RPattz?” He responded in his usual charming, rambling manner, insisting that he wanted a new nickname: Spunk Ransom. The term has stuck, been officially defined, yielded some very cool “Twilight” merch and is reportedly the easiest way to get a smile out of Rob — er, Spunk — if you should ever meet him.

2. Don’t count out Taylor

Barely a month after “Twilight” opened at the top of the box office, young Taylor Lautner had become the J.D. Salinger of the series — disappearing from the spotlight and leaving many to wonder whether we’d see him again. Just when the consensus among fans seemed to be that his role would be recast with a more physically impressive actor like Michael Copon, we found Taylor at a tiny red-carpet event. Noticeably larger, he revealed that he’d been working out around-the-clock, was about to meet with “New Moon” director Chris Weitz and vowed to return as Jacob. Finally, “Twilight” Nation could breath a sigh of relief.

3. Kristen’s Near-Death Experience

We all know that Kristen Stewart is a great dramatic actress, but when she said that filming the next film “killed me,” that took it to a whole new level. As KStew’s quotes rocketed around the Web, Twilighters became even more eager to see her “New Moon” performance.

4. Fach’s Bikini Incident

Peter Facinelli. A one-of-a-kind Twitter bet. A grown man in a bikini dancing down Hollywood Boulevard. Need we say more?

5. Catherine’s Pimp Pad

Who else but MTV could get exclusive access to Catherine Hardwicke’s house/office, the place where the “Twilight” movie phenomenon began? The affable director generously opened her home and gave us a tour of the backyard where Lautner auditioned, the dining room where KStew read her lines — and the bed where she and RPattz first kissed.

6. The RPattz Surprise

In May 2008, we held a contest and landed “Twilight” fan Laura Culpepper as our guest correspondent. But what she didn’t know is that we had arranged for Rob himself to tiptoe in behind Laura while she recorded an on-camera segment and give her a sneak peek at “Twilight.” Without a doubt, this is one of the most memorable pieces of video in all the “Twilight” fandom, revealing Rob’s fun side.

7. Name Those Fans

Once upon a time, an epic battle raged between Twilighters and Twi-Hards over which was the proper name for the fanbase. Since we’re peacemakers as well as journalists, we held an epic poll to settle the matter once and for all. Rob, Kristen and the other stars of the series announced the results — and it’s been Twilighters ever since.

8. A Special Spoilers Evening

To celebrate the conclusion of all those very special Twilight Tuesdays, MTV gave a few hundred Twilighters the chance to attend a taping of our movie special “Spoilers.” All the stars were there, it was a night to remember, and the show continues on as the renamed “Behind the Screen,” which airs Friday and focuses on films such as “Jennifer’s Body.”

9. RPattz Needs Undies

Last November, we reunited Rob and Laura for a revealing interview that may have been, well, a bit too revealing. Ever wonder about Rob’s toenails, his parking-ticket troubles or his underwear? Well, then, you need to watch this.

10. 100 Monkeys Hit MTV

As his fans know, the only thing more fun than watching Jackson Rathbone act may be seeing him in concert. Which is why we were eager to go backstage and onstage to watch his band 100 Monkeys perform at a club in Hollywood. Since then, we’ve caught the band again at TwiCon and spoke to him recently about the Monkeys’ plans to score his new movie. Rock on, Jackson!
