Bella first notices Edward at school in the lunch room. She is immediately drawn to him and his adopted siblings, which is unusual as most humans shy away from them. She asks Jessica about her mysterious classmate, and, Jessica just in thinking his name in response causes Edward to automatically look up. We can tell that he is intrigued by Bella because he stares at her with a look of frustration rather than curiosity like the other kids. This is because he cannot hear what she is thinking.
After lunch, the pair have biology together where they are seated next to one another. Edward has an adverse reaction to her and appears to be disgusted by her. Bella decides to confront him but he does not return to school for a week.
When he comes back he tries to make idle chatter with her because he is curious. This is where it all begins…
The reason Edward left is because the smell of Bella’s blood is intoxicating for him, “his own personal brand of heroin” and despite his life-style all he wants is to drink her blood. He leaves because he does not think he is strong enough to resist. Throughout Twilight, trying to get close to Bella and the desire to kill her creates a raging battle within Edward.
Bella, on the other hand falls quickly and deeply into love with Edward, before long she realises that he has monopolized her heart and that the mere thought of being without him would cause her whole world to shift and probably crumble.
While very young (Bella is at least) the two are soul mates, ironically designed to be together, the infamous lion and the lamb. Everything about them is compatible except that he is a unique killing machine, and her, his natural prey.I truly believe they are meant for each other. Edward attempts to stay away from Bella but she is almost killed by Tyler’s van and Edward saves her, at the time all he could think was “not her”, in doing so he risks exposing the Cullens for what they are. Bella promises to keep it a secret, and stays true to her word despite investigating further giving in to her own curiosity.
Bella makes the decision to keep Edward in her life regardless of what he may be and once decided she is committed to her decision. Their relationship progresses quickly and intensifies as it goes, neither one wants to live without the other, Edward even contemplates ‘suicide’ when James has Bella in the ballet studio.
Edward tells Bella he has waited a hundred years for her and he loves her more than life itself…
